In his poem, “How to Be a Poet,” Wendell Berry evokes language of silence, stillness, and rhythm, a call to patience and slowness, to a space where there are "no unsacred places.” Artists, whether their medium be words, musical notes, paint, clay, or fiber, are enmeshed in the world, the world of time, of labor, of frustration, of distraction, of action, while, if they allow themselves, they might also encounter moments of eternity, a space of reception, inspiration, wonder, wholeness, perhaps even a touch of the divine. In this conversation, the Collegium Institute gathers with artists to explore the ins and outs of their process, the art of craft, but also the underpinnings of their lives as makers, as we seek Wendell Berry's call to “join time to eternity.”
